Government is by consensus. It took a lot of getting used to, but finally we got the hang of it, and rather to our surprise, it seems to work.
It works because we’re all connected. We know that from quantum physics, but more importantly we can feel it now. We’re each unique, but at the same time, we’re all one. So instead of competing with each other, we work together. Each of us is in charge of our own lives, but we work together to make sure everyone has their needs met, everyone’s voice is heard, everyone is happy and safe.
Consensus government is helped along by telepathy, which we’ve all been learning to use since the Change. Council members have to be really good at it, so there are no misunderstandings and everyone knows exactly what everyone else means. It also means there are no hidden agendas!
Council members must be prepared to consider points of view that are different from their own. If they’re not prepared to do that, they just don’t qualify for the job. And because of telepathy, they can’t fool anyone.
Oldies are in a minority on the Councils, because when you’ve lived with dog-eat-dog for so long, it’s hard to make the adjustment to such a different way of operating, where every member of the group is respected and valued for their contribution, even if their point of view isn’t adopted. Where they all trust each other. Where they all want what’s best for the people they represent. Where there’s no game-playing, no face-saving, no humiliation, no winners and no losers.
My partner is a Council member, despite being an oldie like me, and I’m so proud of him that he’s been able to make that transition.
The upshot of it is that policies don’t get adopted because of someone’s ego or someone’s greed, and they don’t keep getting reversed, either. Sometimes progress is a bit slow, but it’s usually in the right direction (and us oldies all remember governments going at a hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction, don’t we?)
Oh, and it’s not just the humans that have a say. There are representatives from the devas, the nature spirits and the elementals. Who are just as important as the people. And without them we would never have been able to heal Mother Earth. I don’t know why they didn’t hate us humans for what we did to her, but they never did. And as soon as we started trying to put things right they were right there, ready and waiting to work with us.
